As a society, we may be able to increase support for redistribution by exposing the ultra-rich. When people do not directly observe large differences in wealth, they tend to underestimate inequality, feel more content with their situation, and show less interest in policy change.

The Trouble With Fascism Analogies
In the interwar decades, many observers of rising fascism failed to understand what was new about this threat. Clinging to the word fascism to define today’s growing reactionary forces risks falling into the same trap.

The Race to Save the Amazon: Top Brazilian Scientist Says Rainforest Is at "Tipping Point"
As we broadcast from the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, we are joined by one of Brazil’s most prominent scientists, Carlos Nobre, who says the Amazon now produces more carbon emissions than it removes from the atmosphere, moving closer to a “tipping point” after which it will be impossible to save the world’s largest rainforest. “We need urgently to get to zero deforestation in all Brazilian biomes, especially the Amazon,” he argues. Nobre is a senior researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo and co-chair of the Scientific Panel for the Amazon. He’s lead author of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for its reports on global warming.

Capital’s structural rot
Capital’s structural rot
As stock markets reach new highs in a speculative orgy, perhaps the signs are that a massive crash, outdoing 1929, is already underway. The stats for the jobs market, private and government borrowing and housing certainly show that America, the world’s largest economy, is entering recessionary territory. World socialism becomes ever more necessary, writes Ted Reese
