Elon Musk challenged critics to name anyone who has died as a result of the funding cuts he led at the US Agency for International Development last year. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof then listed the names of numerous people in West Africa who died after losing access to health care from USAID, including multiple children.  In response, Musk threw a tantrum, calling Kristof “utterly evil” and a “piece of shit and liar.” He also called another researcher “a piece of shit who loves murder” after they named a Sudanese child who died after losing access to USAID-funded HIV medication.

How the World’s Worst Person Became the First Trillionaire
“When people can buy elections, when people can buy governments… that for me is a fundamentally a threat to democracy. Being against billionaires is not a left right issue. This is about whether you care about democracy or not.” The world’s worst person is also the world’s first trillionaire. In this latest episode of ‘Unshocked,’ Naomi Klein and Mehdi Hasan break down what Elon Musk’s trillionaire status means for democracy, capitalism and the rise of racism. In the conversation, Naomi and Mehdi explain how political corruption, government subsidies and IPO promises make up Musk’s new trillionaire status. They also dive into what the increased influence of billionaires means for the state of democracy, noting how Musk is taking advantage over people’s anger over wealth inequality and directing it to migrants. They also discuss how SpaceX IPO is based on unrealistic goals, Musk’s feud with Ro Khanna and protests in Albania over the Trump family. This conversation was published on July 7, 2026 at zeteo.com. Elon Musk claims Zohran Mamdani hasn’t built anything and is a taker. Yet Elon Musk received $38 billion in subsidies, and receives billions more from the government contracts SpaceX gets from NASA and the Department of Defense, money from taxpayers. Hypocritical much?
