Plenty of our community are struggling under the weight of racism, capitalism, fascism, take your pick. Plenty of us are struggling emotionally and materially with the realities of this world. . We can (and I fear must) keep us safe, heard and cared for. So I’m sharing #practicalandtactical info about a topic I feel most strongly about: militant collective care. We need to develop a discipline and practice around caring for each other’s mental health in much the same way we seek to fill more material needs. . As @embracing.ambiguity points out: The future of mental health is ABSOLUTELY mutual aid. It has to be. Our already limited, carceral, and colonial mental health structures are completely inadequate to the challenges we are facing and the challenges to come. So it is up to us to keep each other safe, heard and cared for. . This zine provides guidance on stepping up more structured community groups, HLOCs and respite to subvert the Western modalities of therapy, intensive outpatient programs and even inpatient care. Even if your mental health mutual aid practice never goes this deep, I hope these ideas will inspire your creativity in supporting the people around you and your community more broadly. One of the core parts of my broader mutual aid work is supporting organizers and caregivers - usually individually or through small gatherings. And I am thinking about how to layer some of these tools and ideas into my work, esp for folks who may be in a more destabilizing crisis. . Whatever other work you may be engaged in, please consider how you can build or expand the mental health support you wrapped around other activities. . Because again we keep us safe, heard and cared for. 🖤🖤🖤 . . . Credit: This amazing zine comes from @embracing.ambiguity and has been reformatted for IG by @imperfectactivista.
