As many of us know by now, there has been an influx of right-wing publications targeting the disabled community recently. These aren’t innocent opinion pieces or articles that simply misrepresent their targets on accident. These are deliberate writings full of dog whistles with the goal of smearing and discrediting the disabled and chronically ill. The effects of articles like these are to decrease funding (required by many disabled people to continue living) and to fuel public support of stripping away the rights of disabled individuals. If you live in the United States and feel like everything is caving in around you, like you are being attacked and fleeced from every angle, like you can’t breathe, like you can’t ever seem to catch a break despite doing everything seemingly right, like you are on the verge of a mental-health crisis and/or homelessness, your feelings are justified. We are living in the middle of widespread societal breakdown. We are witnessing the erosion of an empire. We are experiencing the effects of a rotten system (capitalism) coming to its inevitable conclusion. Simply put, the capitalist class and their two political parties have run out of ways to steal from us. Because we have nothing left for them to take.
