We Don’t Need to Save the Planet
We Don’t Need to Save the Planet
The Earth will survive capitalism. The question is which forms of life—and whose lives—will survive on it. The very phrase “saving the planet” is far from innocent. It preserves modernity’s old sovereign fantasy: a human subject invested with a mission of salvation, standing above a nature reduced to a passive object of protection. Our task has never been to save an external Other, but to transform the social order that is making the Earth a hell for the living. Full essay on The Ecosocialist.

People love to say “socialism has never worked” while never examining how often capitalism fails. Businesses go under every single day. Inflation rarely ceases. The economy regularly crashes. Monopolies routinely take over entire industries. And at any given moment there is massive wealth inequality, which actually grows when capitalism is said to be “working”, leading ultimately to the next cycle of crises.
